2008 Construction Industry Conditions Survey

Washington, DC - On March 20, 2008 the Construction Labor Research Council (CLRC) sent out a 33 question survey to over 6,000 union contractor representatives to gauge the actual conditions being experienced by contractors in the construction industry. This survey is being sponsored by The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC) and the North American Contractors Association (NACA) and the results will be outlined by CLRC Executive Director Robert Gasperow on Friday, May 16 at TAUC's upcoming Leadership Conference.

GM has requested ?Yellow Card? status under the National Maintenance Agreements (NMA) Program on several projects.General Motors has a lot of construction and maintenance work on the horizon, and, as in the past, they have turned to the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee, Inc. (NMAPC) for coverage of this work. The NMAPC recently approved 3 projects for GM.

Workplace Safety is Key Issue for Joining Unions

A recent poll released by the Employment Law Alliance finds that the leading factor for a worker?s decision to join a union is workplace safety. While factors like better benefits, higher wages and increased job security were all important, 64 percent of respondents cited safety as the top reason for seeking union representation.
